Director Igore has shown this in â€˜Kalaba Kathalanâ€™ but he should have concentrated more on the screenplay. The film is like a lecture on the doâ€™s and donâ€™ts of possessive love. Arya, Renuka Menon and Akshaya play the lead role in it. Akhilan (Arya) is software professional. He marries an innocent girl Anbarasi (Renuka Menon) who is from a village near Tirunelveli and brings her to the city with him. They live a happy life but things begin to change after Anbarasiâ€™s sister Kanmani (Akshaya) comes into their household to study multimedia course. The trouble is that Kanmani starts admiring Akhilanâ€™s looks, romantic nature and his masculine look. Then Anbarasi gives birth to a child. She doesnâ€™t know the secret episode between her hubby and her sister. The rest of the film is all about the mind game between the two. The neat performance of the lead actors Arya, Renuka and Akshaya has made all the difference to the film. Aryaâ€™s role as a family man and the way he woos his wife is impressive. He is no doubt a star performer. Renuka Menon has done the role of an innocent girl really well. But it is debutante Akshaya who steals the show. The way she carries herself and tries to seduce her brother-in-law is startling. Milanâ€™s film sets are extraordinary and the shipwreck song sequence on the beach is a treat to the eyes. On the flip side, the film would have been better if the first half is trimmed a bit and if the climax scene is extended. The plot in the film is an old one and the scene of Akhilan coming to see Anbarasi is similar to a scene in Mani Ratnamâ€™s film â€˜Rojaâ€™. It also has a shade of old Malayalam film â€˜Edenthottamâ€™. The obsessive love of heroineâ€™s younger sister on her brother-in-law is on the line of Fazilâ€™s recent film â€˜Life is Beautifulâ€™. The music of the film by Niru has nothing special. In a nutshell, â€˜Kalaba Kathalanâ€™ is worth watching.
