Daya Cast : Prakash Raj, Meena, Ramesh Kanna, Raguvaran Music : Bharathwaj Direction : Senthil Kumar Daya - A Prakashraj home production, is the story about an underworld don, his attitude of life, his actions and the reasons why he does what he does. Though Prakash Raj takes these underworld don roles as a fish takes to water - hoping that he would have done something more than his usual in his home production. Co-starring with him are Raghuvaran, Meena and Lakshmi. Simran makes a one-song dance appearance in the movie Dhaya (Prakash Raj) is a rowdy who is on hire for any act of goondaism. For Prakash Raj, who with his baritone voice has played many a forceful role, playing the angry young man comes naturally. Thulasi (Meena) is a teacher in an orphanage run by Sharada Amma (Lakshmi). Thulasi puts Dhaya behind bars but then thinking that Dhaya is a changed man, takes a liking for him and lends him money to buy an autorickshaw. But Dhaya pawns the auto and publicly embarasses Thulasi by abusing her. In comes Major Rudrayya (Raghuvaran) who hires Dhaya to bring upon the downfall of Sharada. Dhaya gains Sharada's trust and soon becomes her Man Friday. Dhaya finds out that Sharada is the wife of the Major and had him sent behind bars because he tried to rape one of the girls in the orphanage. The confrontation between Dhaya and the Major and then Dhaya's remorse at his acts form the rest of the movie. Prakash Raj has put in a decent performance but still has the tendency to overact. Raghuvaran's acting has not changed after all these years and the director should have taken greater care in trying to obtain a different type of portrayal from him.
