Description

Chokka Thangam Year of Release : 2003 Cast : Vijaykant, Soundarya, Prakashraj, Uma, Swath Music : Deva Direction : K Bhagyaraj Muthu (Vijaykanth), a do-gooder, is the local oil merchant in a village. His younger sister (Uma) is the apple of his eye and he looks out for a suitable groom for her. Soundarya is an orphan who comes to the village and falls for Muthu. Goundamani and Senthil are close friends of Muthu and they try through various astrologers to fix Umaâ€™s marriage. Muthu meets Prakash Raj, a dashing man and soon he develops a soft corner for his uprightness and social awareness. Muthu fixes his sisterâ€™s wedding with Prakash Raj but later he comes to know that the marriage was a mutual one, where he had to marry Prakashâ€™s sister. Bhagyaraj has developed this issue as the crux of the story. There is nothing new in the film and is similar to a dozen films of the 60s based on the rural milieu. The annan-thankachi pasam has not been worked out well. The performance from the lead cast of Vijaykanth and Soundarya are equally disappointing. Prakash Raj and Uma are the only saving grace in an otherwise insipid movie. Devaâ€™s music is a let down, as all the songs are rehashes.
