It's the four-day adventures of Kamal Haasan and Madhavan, as they journey from Orissa to Chennai, by flight, bus, rail and walk through the flood-hit areas, workers strike etc, that is depicted in 'Anbe Sivam'. With story and screenplay by Kamal Haasan himself, the film is directed by Sunder C and produced by Lakshmi Movie Makers.
The female lead is played by Kiran and the supporting cast has Nasser, Yuhi Sethu, Santhana Bharati, Uma, Madan, Vishwanath, 'Pasi' Sathya. Adopting a new look for each of his films has become a habit with Kamal Haaan and this time it's a part-of-the-face-burnt-look. The make up items have been acquired from Michel Westmore whose services the actor had hired for his earlier films also.
Madhavan plays an upmarket savvy NRI from US who is back in India to get married to Kiran. Kamalhassan, a former PWG sympathiser and a theatre activist was Kiran's former lover. Madhavan misses his flight, boards a train and meets Kamalhassan who is blabbermouth and is his constant companion throughout this harrowing journey. Kamal sports a new look for the film with a broken face split right in the middle, soda bottle glasses and broken tooth!
While the make up artiste is Sunil from Mumbai, who has also worked with the actor earlier. The Muthalamada railway station in Kerala plays a crucial role in the story, and while scenes were shot in the natural location, sets were also erected by art director Prabhakar, and canned by cinematographer Arthur Wilson. The film's music is by Vidyasagar, editing by Sai Suresh and stunt choreography by Vikram Dharma
